Collegiate Scholarship Grants

Since 1972, over 2,015 members have received more than $1,500,000 in scholarship grants to support their education. We are pleased to announce that the Slovak Catholic Sokol will make available a total of $45,000 in college scholarship grants to eligible members in 2025:

Thirty Slovak Catholic Sokol college grants of $1,000 each
Krista L. Glugosh Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000
Two Theodore and Mary Jane Rich Memorial Scholarships one for a male and female in the amount of $2,000 each
Two Emil Slavik Memorial Scholarships one for a male and female in the amount of $2,000 each
The Doctors' Lesko Medical Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000
The Yencha Scholarship Grant in the amount of $1,000
John J. Yanosick Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000
Three Slovak Catholic Sokol (SCS) Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000
 

With one application you may apply for all college scholarship grants for which you are eligible.  Only one grant per applicant will be awarded each year.

Step 1. Review Eligibility

Previous recipients of the Slovak Catholic Sokol scholarship grants may re-apply for a 2025 grant; however, per Convention mandate - a student may receive a maximum of two (2) Slovak Catholic Sokol scholarship grant awards.

A total of 30 Slovak Catholic Sokol grants will be available for members who have completed one semester of undergraduate studies as a FULL TIME student at an accredited college, university or professional school or a student currently enrolled full time in a graduate or professional degree program.
Must have a $3,000 Permanent Whole Life Plan
A member of the organization for at least 5 years
One parent must be a Slovak Catholic Sokol member
Must have an accumulated grade point average of at least 2.5 or better

Krista L. Glugosh Memorial Scholarship Grant
Krista L. Glugosh Memorial Scholarship
Application Due Date: March 31, 2025
Grant Amount: $1,000
Grades: Post-Secondary
A scholarship in memory of Krista L. Glugosh is available for members who have at least one parent of Slovak ancestry and majoring in curriculum with a focus on computer science, information technology, or related subfields.
Must have a $3,000 Permanent Whole Life Plan
A member of the organization for at least 5 years
One parent must be a Slovak Catholic Sokol member
Must be majoring in curriculum with a focus on computer science, information technology, or related subfields
Theodore and Mary Rich Memorial Scholarship Grant
Theodore and Mary Jane Rich Memorial Scholarship
Application Due Date: March 31, 2025
Grant Amount: $2,000
Grades: Post-Secondary
Two Theodore and Mary Jane Rich Memorial Scholarships one each for a male and female are available for members who have at least one parent of Slovak ancestry and must be majoring in the medical curriculum.

A member of the organization for at least 5 years
One parent must be a Slovak Catholic Sokol member

Emil Slavik Memorial Scholarship Grant

Application Due Date: March 31, 2025
Grant Amount: $2,000
Grades: Post-Secondary
The Scholarship is in honor of and in remembrance of Mr. Emil Slavik who was an active and dedicated member of the Slovak American community and a firm believer in education. This Scholarship Fund shall perpetuate the generosity of Mr. Emil Slavik and his intent to provide financial assistance for higher education for the youth of the Slovak Catholic Sokol. (One female and one male grant of $2000 awarded)
At least one parent must be of Slovak decent
Both parents must be Slovak Catholic Sokol members
Must have a $3,000 Permanent Whole Life Plan
A member of the organization for at least 5 years
The student must be majoring in Liberal Arts, the Sciences, Pre-law, Pre-Medical and Business Curriculum

One ''The Doctors' Lesko Medical Memorial Scholarship'' is available for members who have at least one parent of Slovak ancestry and must be majoring in the Nursing or the Medical Curriculum.

A member of the organization for at least 5 years
One parent must be a Slovak Catholic Sokol member
The student must be majoring in the Nursing or the Medical Curriculum.

One ''John J. Yanosick Memorial Scholarship'' is available for members who have at least one parent of Slovak ancestry and is attending an accredited college, university or professional trade school.

Candidates must submit the Application by March 31, 2025.
The Slovak Catholic Sokol Home Office together with the Scholarship Committee will screen all the requests as to their eligibility. Current certificate holders can upgrade to the minimum required life insurance coverage by March 21, 2025. An applicant who neglects to submit or complete any part of these requirements before the established deadline will automatically be disqualified.

Step 3. Award Scholarships

Winners of our 2025 scholarship grants will be announced in May, 2025. Checks will be issued to winners in July, 2025. Our scholarship grants are just another example of Sokol fraternalism and our effort in assisting our members in their quest for a good education.
 
Acknowledgment
If you are awarded a grant, an acknowledgement of the grant, should be made in writing by the recipient as soon as possible. An acknowledgement can be sent to the Supreme Vice-President, Andrea Tadlock, Chairperson, Slovak Catholic Sokol Scholarship Committee by email, vp@slovakcatholicsokol.org or to the Slovak Catholic Sokol by email, Sokol205@aol.com.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

 
Q What materials or requirements should I gather to apply for a collegiate scholarship grant?
 
A When applying for a collegiate scholarship, it’s important to carefully review the eligibility requirements for each scholarship of interest, as each grant has specific qualifications. Generally, all grants require candidates to be a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol for a minimum of five years and to hold a permanent whole life insurance policy with a face amount of at least $3,000. Additionally, most grants stipulate that at least one parent must be a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol. Notably, the Emil Slavik Memorial Grant requires both parents to be members. All candidates must submit a colored head and shoulders photograph ( in jpeg format).

Furthermore, applicants for both the Slovak Catholic Sokol Grant and the Slovak Catholic Sokol Memorial Scholarship must submit written essays. All candidate must provide transcripts. A certified copy of academic transcripts must also be sent to:

Q When can I apply for the 2025/2026 collegiate scholarships?
 
A The application process will commence on December 1, 2024, and will conclude at midnight on March 31, 2025. It is important to note that all required documents must either be submitted electronically or, if sent via mail delivery service, must be postmarked by March 31st.
 
 
 
Q Can I apply for a collegiate grant as a senior in high school?
 
A To be eligible for a collegiate scholarship, candidates are required to have completed at least one semester in an accredited college program or a professional trade school.
 
 
 
Q If I do not meet the minimum requirement of $3,000, will I still have the option to purchase additional Permanent Whole Life Insurance?

Q Can official transcripts be sent electronically to the chairperson of the scholarship committee?

Q Can I apply for more than one collegiate scholarship in an academic year?
 
A You can apply for multiple scholarships for which you meet the eligibility criteria. Scholarships might vary in terms of qualifications, so make sure to review the requirements for each opportunity. However, please note that a candidate can only be awarded one scholarship grant in any academic year. This policy helps ensure that the available funds are distributed fairly among as many students as possible.
 
 
 
Q Can I apply for a scholarship grant in the following academic year if I did not receive a grant?
 
A Members of the Slovak Catholic Sokol have the opportunity to apply for a collegiate scholarship, provided they are enrolled in an accredited collegiate program. Each member can receive a maximum of two Slovak Catholic Sokol Scholarship Grants, along with one grant from other available options.
